Sophia Chen DO, MPH, ACUE is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.  After serving as a Chief Resident in the Pediatric Residency Program at UMDNJ Newark, Dr. Chen joined the Department of Pediatrics in 2008 and was appointed Course Director of Physician’s Core.  As Course Director for the doctoring skills course for 8 years, she continued to evolve the curriculum.  Dr. Chen then served as the Director of Phase I Curriculum in 2015.  Her curricular innovations have been published in peer reviewed journals and she has presented the results of her medical education work at multiple national meetings including the annual AAMC Learn, Serve, Lead and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors meetings. 

Dr. Chen is currently the Assistant Dean of Preclerkship Education. She was directly involved with the launch of the new curriculum in 2015 including introduction to an early clinical reasoning curriculum, development and implementation of interprofessional education (IPE) activities, ensuring learner readiness through the AAMC Core Entrustable Professional Activities OSCEs, and utilization of technology to support learning.  She is a member of the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP). In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Chen serves as the Assistant Director to the Pediatric Clerkship.
