Instructor and Field Education Coordinator, Rutgers School of Social Work
Mary Beth Ali serves as the Field Education Coordinator for the School of Social Work and is an NTT (Non-Tenured Track) Teaching Instructor.
In this position, she creates and secures field placements for MSW and BASW (Baccalaureate Social Work) students, oversees liaisons and off-site field instructors, facilitates field training seminars for students and field faculty, and in particular circumstances, will serve as an off-site field instructor or field liaison.
Ali’s practice and research areas in social work span from health and medical social work with a concentration in HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), interprofessional health team collaboration, and integration of clinical therapeutic services for the Muslim community.
Since 2018, Ali has served as an SSW (School of Social Work) faculty advisor and facilitator for multiple interprofessional education committees at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Newark; the Rutgers New Jersey’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of New Brunswick; Cooper Medical School, Rowan University, Camden: and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, University of the Sciences, Philadelphia. In this role, Ali oversees and assures the integration of core social work competencies within each unique interprofessional education (IPE)experience, assuring the adherence to the CSWE (Council on Social Work Education) educational professional standards. For example, social work’s aim for IPE collaboration and facilitation focuses on screening for social determinates of health and equity while improving communication with professional teams using research-informed practice theories. Through Ali’s continued IPE advancement and commitment, Rutgers SSW students have the unique opportunity to take part in more than twelve IPE events each academic year.
Ali is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed School Social Worker, Substance Awareness Coordinator, and NASW (National Association of Social Workers) Certified Advanced Social Work Case Manager in New Jersey. Ali earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Fordham University with an emphasis on social work research. She also earned two bachelor’s degrees, a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) and a Bachelor’s in Sociology (BA) at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Ali holds clinical certificates in Thought Field Therapy, Bowen Family Systems, NASW Clinical supervision, Strengthening Families, Post-Traumatic Stress Management, and Seminar in Field Instruction.
