Dr. Volino earned his Doctor of Pharmacy at Albany College of Pharmacy, and completed a two-year, post-doctoral industry fellowship at Novartis Pharmaceuticals/Rutgers University. Dr. Volino’s current role as a Clinical Pharmacist involves managing an ambulatory care pharmacy practice site at Barnabas Health Retail Pharmacy – Saint Barnabas Medical Center where he supports clinical services and transitions of care initiatives. He develops, implements, and manages patient-centered self-care, preventive care, and medication management programs across seven affiliated pharmacies. Dr. Volino has organized and helped deliver over 400 community outreach programs involving healthcare-related topics at numerous New Jersey-based senior centers, assisted living facilities, training centers, health fairs, and schools.
Dr. Volino is highly engaged in expanding interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaborations (IPC) within the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and across RBHS. He serves as Co-chair of the Standardized Patients in IPE and COVID Related Challenges Task Force and is a member of the RBHS Interprofessional Programs Advisory Committee, RBHS IPE Case Development Committee, and Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy IPE Committee. As a facilitator and moderator of IPE initiatives, such as the Special Populations Interprofessional Care Experiences case discussions, Dr. Volino encourages future healthcare providers to identify opportunities for delivering interdisciplinary patient-centered care. Understanding the importance of evaluating IPE-related activities and sharing best practices, he has collaborated with colleagues across multiple professions to research, publish, and present innovative practices on closed-loop communication and the impact of IPE activities. Dr. Volino also holds a courtesy joint appointment as Assistant Professor Primary Care Department with the School of Health Professions–Physician Assistant Program.
